Switcher3Way
Fixes words typed with the wrong keyboard layout, across English, Ukrainian and Russian.
Getting started
Switcher3Way needs two macOS permissions, and it cannot do anything at all until both are granted. It asks for them in a setup window on first launch.
- Input Monitoring — to see which keys you press.
- Accessibility — to replace the word you just typed.
On macOS 27, the permission list was renamed. Accessibility and Input Monitoring used to be separate entries under Privacy & Security. They are now merged into one list called Device Control and Data Access.
If Switcher3Way is not in that list, add it with the + button at the bottom. On macOS 27 the app cannot open that dialog for you.
After granting Input Monitoring the app restarts itself once — macOS requires it.
It is not correcting anything
Work down this list; the first two cover almost every case.
1. Check the permissions
Open the menu-bar icon. If Check Permissions… appears in the menu, something is missing — that item only shows when a permission is absent.
2. Check which key is the trigger
The menu header shows it, for example “⌥ converts the last word”. If you changed it in Settings, pressing the old key does nothing. Some triggers need a double tap, and the two taps must be quick — under half a second apart.
3. Some applications are excluded on purpose
Switcher3Way stays quiet in terminals, code editors and password managers, because a wrong correction there is expensive. You can see and change the list in Settings → Exceptions. Password managers cannot be removed.
4. Clicking clears the buffer
The app can only rewrite a word it watched you type. If you click somewhere — even into the same window — it deliberately forgets, because rewriting after the cursor has moved would delete the wrong text. Retype the word and try again.
5. It may be leaving the word alone on purpose
Switcher3Way will not convert a word that is valid in the language you are already typing, and it will not "correct" something that looks like a typo in that language. A wrong correction costs more than a missed one, so it prefers to do nothing when unsure. Use the trigger key to force a conversion.
Password fields
Switcher3Way stops completely when it detects a password field — no correction, no layout change, no on-screen feedback.
The Mac App Store version runs sandboxed and cannot inspect individual text fields, so it relies on the system secure-input signal and the excluded-applications list. A password box that uses neither may not be recognised. You can add any application to the excluded list yourself.
Purchases
The Mac App Store version is free for 14 days with the full feature set, no account and no card. After that you can keep it with a yearly subscription or a single one-time purchase.
- New Mac, or reinstalled? Open the purchase window from the menu and choose Restore Purchases.
- Managing or cancelling a subscription is done in System Settings → your name → Media & Purchases → Subscriptions. We cannot cancel it for you, and Apple handles all refunds.
Privacy
Nothing you type leaves your computer. No account, no analytics, no telemetry. Details are in the privacy policy.
Reporting a problem
The app can write a diagnostic log, which records what it decided and why — including when it decided to do nothing. It is off by default and never leaves your computer unless you send it.
- Settings → Advanced → turn on Debug logging
- Reproduce the problem
- Email the log to support@ironmade.site
The log records word lengths and the decisions taken. It does not record the characters you typed.
Please also say which version you have (it is in the menu header), your macOS version, and which application you were typing into.
